Classes take place each Sunday, new students welcome!
Papa Hokuloa: noon until 1pm
Papa Lei Hoku: 12:45pm until 2pm
Papa Hoku Lewa: 1:45pm until 3pm
All classes will integrate Hawaiian values in the learning process. Haumāna may also be asked to share their Aloha Spirit with the community through public performances or other events.
Papa Hokuloa (Morning Star)
Keiki or young dancers will develop their coordination through age-appropriate choreography including kahiko and ‘auana. Practice of Hawaiian words are woven into their hula instruction and will include “kahea” or “calling”, as part of hula. Dance technique and protocol will be introduced.
Papa Lei Hoku (Lei of Stars)
This makua (adult) class will be enjoyed by all experience levels. Basic hula steps and hand movements are taught to develop coordination as well as confidence. Basic ‘olelo (language) related to nā mele (songs) will be shared. Dance technique and protocol will be stressed in addition to the integration of Hawaiian values.
Papa Hoku Lewa (Moving Star)
This makua (adult) class will be physically challenging. Some independent study of ‘olelo (language), mele (song) and mo’olelo (history) will be required. Attendance must be consistent to remain in this class.
